The Nights of Lights is a wonderful time of the year for St. Augustine, and is a great way to celebrate the holiday season. People come from all over the world to see the lights in our little town making it the perfect destination for you and your family, and because the Nights of Lights is such a large attraction, that means there is plenty to do around St. Augustine when it comes to seeing the lights! Here are just a few of our favorites:
See the lights by trolley or train: Riding the trains and trolleys is one of the best experiences St. Augustine has to offer this time of the year, and it is also the safest and most comfortable way to get around town. During the Nights of Lights, everyone who rides the train will be given magical viewing glasses that turn the lights into fun shapes such as snowflakes or Santas. The trains and trolleys offer an exclusive look around St. Augustine where you will be able to experience a comprehensive view of the city. The Old Town Trolleys famous Nights of Lights tour is one of the tours offered around town. On this tour, guests will be able to see the lights, sing Christmas carols, and stroll through the whole town. These tours operate Sunday, November 21st through the 29th of January, 2022. There is also the Ripley’s Red Train Nights of Lights Tour. On this tour, it will bring you around downtown St. Augustine where you will also be able to view the light display. This tour runs nightly through the end of January 2022 starting the 20th of November.
See the lights from the water: The Nights of Lights is a sight to see on land, but is also amazing from the water. Cruise up the bayfront where you will be able to see the gorgeous lights by-way of the boat! These tours are offered by many charters out of St. Augustine, but some of the most common tours include the St. Augustine Boat Tours Nights of Lights Tour and the Scenic Cruise Nights of Light Tour. The St. Augustine Boat Tour is offered three times nightly and departs out of the Conch House marina. These tours last about an hour and a half and include special 3-D glasses, making viewing so much more fun. The St. Augustine Boat Tours will be running the Nights of Lights tour through the end of January 2022. The Scenic Cruise Nights of Lights tour offers a tour along the bayfront aboard the Victory III. For more information on both tours, click here.
Take a walk around the town: If traveling by trolley, train, or boat isn’t quite your cup of tea, there is no better way to fully indulge in the Nights of Lights than by foot! Take a walk around historic downtown St. Augustine where you will be able to spend as much time as you’d like below the lights. If travelling by foot, be sure to take a walk along the bayfront, visit the Plaza de Constitution, and the Lightner Museum. All of these places allow for magnificent views of the lights and allow for amazing photo opportunities. Click here for a map of St. Augustine.
