St. Augustine has something for everyone. For those looking for relaxation, there are wonderful beaches to soak up the sun and sprawl out to enjoy a good book. The rich history of the city is perfect for those looking to learn more about the past while they wander streets filled with forts and colonial quarters. St. Augustine is also perfect for those sports and outdoor lovers looking for a way to spend as much time in nature as possible. There are events year round perfect for this purpose, but here are five events in October guaranteed to please any of the sports inclined.
Oldest City Red Trout Classic Tournament 2019
Back for the 18th year, the Old City Red Trout Classic Tournament will be held Wednesday to Friday, October 9th to 11th. Proceeds from the tournament will go towards the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of North Florida. For those worried about impacts from fishing, no worries, this tournament is catch-and-release! Each team of two fishermen will have a local fishing guide to lead them throughout the tournament. They have, so far, raised $21,250 of their $50,000 goal.
Saltwater Fishing 101
For those who aren’t of the tournament fishing variety, there are free – that’s right, free – fishing clinics being offered on five Wednesdays in October. Held from 9:00am to 11:00am in Vilano Beach, these clinics will help anyone learn the ins and outs of saltwater fishing. While the clinics are free, it is important to register which can be done on their webpage. It is “bring your own gear,” but the clinics will cover everything from buying the right rod and reel to how to fight a fish, and catch and release techniques.
St. Augustine Amateur Golf Tournament
Returning for the 16th year in a row, the St. Johns Golf Club will host its annual amateur golf tournament from October 11th to 13th, Friday through Sunday. Tee times start at 9 and run to 11, with the course formatted for 54-hole stroke play.
Unity Pink Motorcycle Ride 2019
Unity Outreach has organized the annual Unity Pink Motorcycle Ride on Saturday, October 12th, starting at 8:30! The event is free for those who just want to watch, but those who want to ride will pay a $25 registration fee. This includes a bag, a T-shirt, and lunch! The event is geared towards all ages, with live music, food, a raffle and a silent auction.
Jail Break 5K 2019
October 26th at 8am will see the start of the 4th annual Jail Break 5k! Presented by Old Town Trolley Tours and Investing in Kids, the 5k will start at the Old Jail, hence its name as the Jail Break 5k, and will culminate in racing across the Vilano Beach Bridge. Runners of all ages are welcome, and everyone is encouraged to dress up for the occasion however they see fit! Registration is $25 per person, and includes a race T-shirt, a goody bag, and a finisher’s medal.
While there are hundreds of things to do in St. Augustine to enjoy nature and stay outdoors, these are the top five can’t miss events that are sure to make the transition from summer to fall a reason to celebrate!
