Overview Project Began: January 3, 2013
Expected Completion: Late 2013
FDOT held a construction open house November 27 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Crescent Beach Baptist Church located on State Road 206 to discuss the upcoming construction on the Crescent Beach Bridge. Construction is scheduled to begin January 3, 2013 on the rehabilitation project on the State Road 206 bridge in Crescent Beach. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began preparations in August for this project which will rehabilitate the mechanical and electrical system of the drawbridge. The majority of the work, which also includes minor repairs, will be completed using lane closures during construction. While full bridge closures will be necessary to complete the required repairs, no bridge closures will be allowed weekdays between 5:30 and 9:30 a.m. and from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Also, no full bridge closures are scheduled next year from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend because of increased traffic volumes and the summer beach traffic. Only about 35 days of the total contract days will require the bridge to be completely closed. Motorists will be alerted to the bridge closures in advance using message boards on the roadway and notification to the news media. FDOT hired Quinn Construction, Inc., of Palmetto to complete the project for $3.3 million by the end of 2013. The contractor has already started gathering and fabricating materials necessary for construction. Project update for December 10: Preparations continue for the rehabilitation project, including fabricating and gathering materials. Actual construction is scheduled to begin January 3, 2013. Phone calls and e-mails are coming in each week from interested persons wanting to be added to the e-mail or text blast list for notification of bridge closures or changes to bridge closures.
