January-April 2013 Don Juan Ponce de Leon Statue at Historical 30 degrees, 8 minutes latitude
The 300-pound monument will stand on a concrete pedestal 13 feet high and be highly visible to motorists. Lincolnville resident Candace Carroll agreed to fund the statue's creation and installation after her friend Dan Holiday told her he couldn't find a backer for the project he'd conceived. "He'd asked three people, but they all backed out," Carroll said. "There was nobody else coming forward. I felt as strongly about it as he did and said that if no one else will do it, I will." However, she has remained tight-lipped about the cost.
