Here at Beacher's Lodge we love our native wildlife. May Through October boasts a special time for some very special visitors to our sandy shores. Sea turtle season is here! Florida is the 2nd largest breeding ground for sea turtles in the world. St. Johns County beaches saw over 700 nests last season. Unfortunately due to pollution and beach development these incredible creatures have seen their numbers decline. Nesting turtles can become very confused by the abundance of lights on the beach and they may even wander out to places they shouldn't go. We want to save these special creatures for generations to come! Here at Beacher's we take extra precautions to make sure the nesting mother's can lay their eggs with as little stress as possible. Traffic by vehicle is only permitted during the daylight hours but the beach is available to enjoy any time. As guests at an oceanfront property there are other precautions you can take during your stay at the beach to reduce hazards for the turtles. Our front desk staff can provide plenty of information of how to be respectful of the turtle's and their sensitive environment. As long as we protect these precious creatures we protect our beach privileges. Sea Turtle nesting season extends from May 1 - October 31 If you wish to contact Habitat Conservation for more information call 904 -209-0331 or visit the St. Johns County Information Page on the sea turtles that visit our area http://www.co.st-johns.fl.us/hcp/Turtles.aspx Thank you for respecting our beaches and wildlife - Beacher's Lodge Staff
