Turtle season begins on the beach May 1st, with Sea Turtle Washback Season July 1st - November 30th. As the turtles are now starting to nest, the washback season is when the young turtles make their way to the water. Occassionally these young sea turtles get washed back on the beach and become entangled by the seaweed. Balcony lights and interior lights must be kept to a minimum or a special film must be applied to the exterior lights, to keep from distracting the sea turtle on their way to the water. The areas where sea turtles are nesting are marked off by the beach service department, but it takes everyone's awareness to really help these little turtles make their way to the sea.
